Meeting Minutes – 10/17/2004

Order of the Silver Gryphon, Meeting Minutes for Restday, day 17 of the month Jastatos in the year 5104.

Meeting directed by Kriztian

Members in attendance: Sir Cryheart, Dame Deavon, Sir Eahlstan, Sir Kinshack, Kriztian, Metadi, Sir Morgiest, Murgin, Shirkon, Xanith, Dame Yviara

I. Squire/Guest Issues

Kinshack plans to bring Aelion to the next meeting, barring prior objections.

Kriztian plans to bring Lady Tatiyanna to the next meeting, barring prior objections.

II. Future Events Discussion

Since it has been more than a year since the occupation of the Landing by Jantalarian forces, it is an appropriate time to begin planning a twofold event: on one hand we may organize a celebration of our independence over the last year, on another we can set up a memorial service to remember those allies who fell during the incursion. Start thinking of ideas of how to make this event special as we'll hopefully start planning on it soon.

It was proposed that any such celebration be fairly epic in nature and include lectures on each of the phases of the war: the forging of the bane weapons, the shattering of each crystal, and the death of Lerep Hochstib.

It was suggested to hold the memorial service apart from the independence celebration in respect to those remembered.

III. Faith Seminar Planning

We will plan on setting a date next meeting in two weeks. All other planning remains the same (as described in Morgiest's most recent missive). The most important point is the Gryphons are not to dominate the discussion. The Gryphons will speak through Sir Morgiest's presentation and minimally during the open discussion.

IV. Paladins

More discussion was had. Some major points include:

Religion should not be part of the selection process.

Choice of combat style and general carriage and demeanor should be the foremost criteria used for consideration of candidates.

Judgement by the person and their actions, not by the label or profession.

A motion was made to strike the following line from the full membership requirements of the bylaws, Article III: Section 1

"Currently limited to the warrior profession."

Votes: 6 aye, 4 nay, 1 abstention

Majority was not achieved, so the motion failed.

By present standards, if members wish to become paladins, they will become Friends of the Order. We'll need to make appropriate provisions if we are to allow exceptions on this matter.

A second motion was made to the effect of: "Any current members and squires not lose current or prospective status due to profession changes." However the motion was withdrawn to give it more time to discuss at a later meeting.

V. Other

Kriztian has extended an offer by his wife Lady Tatiyanna to provide two chrism gems for each member in response to the changes in the way death tolls us. Our thanks go to Lady Tatiyanna for her incredible generosity.
